2010

2010 was a great year full of growth and accomplishments. Merrick Talent continually signed new talent and auditions/ bookings doubled from previous year.

Our expansion to LA has been an eye opener to say the least but also a great adventure with successful bookings in Film and TV. We our very proud of our talent that moved from the NW and took the "Chance" with us. You never know until you try. And try we did!  Roles on Desperate Housewives, How I Met Your Mother, Friends With Benefits, Photo Shoot with Jane Lynch (Glee), Foreign Exchange, Axe Commercial and more.

Looking forward, we are opening in NY/2011 mid February.  Who knows what lies ahead...but we do expect great opportunities for all.

Thank you for your continual support and referrals. We could not and do not exist without each and every one of you. And for that, we are very humbled and honored to be in your presence.

Tis the Season

Wishing everyone the best loving, caring, sharing season.

Here we are in sunny California, unwrapping presents amongst blue skies and palm trees. I happen to enjoy the warmth and mild weather at Christmas but the rest of the family tends to disagree. And since the rest of the family is all about seasonal change and snow, plans are being made for a New York Christmas next year. Fine, fine... but until next year, I am going to soak up the sun.

Yesterday in the New York Times Arts Section Adam Kepler wrote a piece about the new “Tron: Legacy” Motion comic that is out in conjunction with the feature release.  I bet you didn’t know that this was produced by an up and coming company here in Oregon.  Double Barrel Motion Labs is a growing company that has a base here in Portland and recently has shown interest in having even more of a footprint in Oregon.  Chief Executive Jeff Kreilitz called our office earlier in the year as his company started to line up a slew of new projects.  Also coming out of the Portland office are animated motion comic projects associated with “The Muppets”, “Epic Mickey”, and “Valora”.
2011 is also looking to be a big year for Double Barrel according to Jeff and we’re eager to see what is in store for the future.

Blake Edwards

Blake Edwards Dies at 88

Blake Edwards, the renowned director of the "Pink Panther" movies, "Breakfast at Tiffany's," "10," and countless other film comedies died Thursday morning. He was 88 years old. Edwards wrote or directed close to 50 films, and was given an honorary Academy Award in 2004 for his life's work. He was born in Tulsa, Okla., in 1922. According to Variety, Edwards' wife Julie Andrews and their two children were at Edwards' bedside when he passed.

'King's Speech' Leads Globe Noms With Seven

With seven nominations, "The King's Speech," the British drama about a regal speech impediment, led the nominations for the 68th annual Golden Globe Awards were announced Tuesday morning. Facebook-founding drama "The Social Network" and boxing tale "The Fighter" followed close behind with six noms each. In the television categories, "Glee" led the parade with five nominations. Eight other shows—including "30 Rock," "Dexter," "Modern Family" and "Mad Men"—scored three noms each.

Weekend should be Weekcontinual

In this fast paced Industry, it is only wise to work the sixth and seventh day of the week. Owning your own business allows you create your hours,  yet the wise- self employed take little down time and stay one step ahead of the competition. To some, this may seem extreme. Others, that are self employed, understand. But the truth to such reality is that when you're building your business and truly love it, the work seems a pleasure and every day is enjoyable. Not  to down grade the time involved, self discipline and continual projection for future projects as being self employed is not for sissies. Being self employed takes great determination and focus to become successful and at least pay your bills. Continuing the week into the weekend allows our agency a smooth work week, less stress and preparation for upcoming week.  We have worked this philosophy since opening in 2007 and will proudly challenge our weekcontinual into 2011.

The appearance of impropriety

Marketing is actually what other people are saying about you.
Like it or not, true or not, what other people say is what the public tends to believe. Hence an imperative to be intentional about how we're seen.
It may be true that the effluent from your factory is organic, biodegradable and not harmful to the river. But if it is brown and smelly and coming out of an open pipe, your neighbors might draw their own conclusions.
I know you washed your hands just before you walked into the examination room, but if you wash them again, right here in front of me, all doubts go away.
Yes, Ms. Congressperson, I know that lobbyist is your good friend, but perhaps someone else should host you on vacation.
Your brother-in-law may very well be the most qualified person on the planet to do this project for us, but perhaps (unfair as it might be) it would be better marketing to hire the second-most-qualified person instead.
Sneaking around is a bad strategy. You will get caught. Ironically, it's also a bad strategy to not sneak around but appear to be.
You will never keep people from talking. But you can take actions to influence the content of what they say.

Comcast SUCKS!

NBC Writers Back WGA's Comcast Effort

The Writer Guild of America West's effort to unionize writers at 10 Comcast Entertainment Group shows has been endorsed by a group of 140 NBC writers. "We believe that Comcast Entertainment Group's writers should have what we have, a Writers Guild of America contract that provides portable pension and health benefits, fair payment for reuse and resale of their material, reasonable minimums and other appropriate employment terms," the letter said. Comcast is fighting to stop the organizing effort.

Oregon Films at Sundance

Last week, Sundance revealed the names of the films that will screen at next month's event in Park City, Utah. Of the 112 movies accepted into the festival, from nearly 4,000 submitted, at least seven feature films were made in Oregon or by Oregon filmmakers -- easily the largest Oregon contingent ever at the festival.

SAG board also okays live-action cable TV and two animation contracts.

Sometimes it seems this is one of the most difficult parts of the job as you not only take into consideration the liveliness of the photo - it must balance out in light, character, wardrobe, makeup and of course, how Merrick Talent will sell the model to the industry.

 The workshops went very well! Also the ladies that came to the runway casting did a great job. I will be on more good day oregon for fashion forte on the 22nd and the promo for microsoft and southwest airlines is doing great!

Merrick Talent is holding one on one interviews with LA models and actors today. Kelli Miller, Owner/Agent, will be heading the interviews. We are searching  actors with some experience/ training. Models are to bring  Portfolios.
